With the Fiber Driver Gigabit Multimode Extender, it is now possible to implement Gigabit Ethernet on existing multimode fiber up to 2 km. The current IEEE 802.3z standard for Gigabit Ethernet transmission on multimode fiber is 275 meters on 62.5micron fiber and 550 meters on 50micron fiber.
